Do you have a vision for yourself?
An ideal that you’d like to see and create in your life?
Try implementing this practical exercise:
Take some time and really think about what you really want in your life. This could be in any area of your life.
Suspend all disbelief for a moment and imagine that whatever you envision and describe on the screen of your mind is going to happen.
I'll use type of lifestyle for this example:
Where are you? What’s your physical location?
Is it in the mountains? Is it in a warm, sunny location? Are you near the ocean?
Are you in a city or are you in a small town out in the countryside?
Who are you with and what are you doing?
Are you with friends? Family? By yourself?
Are you hiking, skiing, bike riding, kayaking, fishing, swimming, playing tennis, taking day trips, driving the coastline, surfing, going to the beach, going to museums, going to restaurants and local attractions?
What are the sights, sounds, smells?
Take some time to really think about this and write down your vision on paper. Be as specific and descriptive as you can.
We engage in this type of thinking when we plan a vacation or a party and we can do the same type of thinking for planning our lives.
Everything that you’ve envisioned and described in this exercise are there, awaiting your recognition of them. Awaiting for you to enjoy and appreciate them.
Whatever it is in your minds’ conception is a possibility or else you wouldn’t have imagined it.
The only thing that can prevent you from your vision is your own belief or disbelief.
Q. So why is having a vision so important?
A. Having a clear vision is important because it keeps you laser-focused on what you want in life.
A clearly defined vision keeps you from the habit of drifting and from allowing yourself to be swayed, distracted or pulled off course.
Q. What is the role of a clearly defined vision in the attainment of goals?
A. The role of having a clearly defined vision keeps us motivated and excited about reaching our goals.
Goals are the steps we take AS we are living FROM our vision of what we want and truly desire.
Accomplishing goals are great, but we want to ensure that our goals are aligned with our overall vision; how we see ourselves and what we see ourselves being, doing and having.
Writing out a well-defined vision of what you want in your life is a great way to stay focused and motivated toward accomplishing your goals.
When you know that your goals are leading you toward your vision as you achieve them, it makes the process that much more enjoyable.
Thank you,
Francis Bills
